Google’s Project Glass – Welcome to the Future

Imagine this if you will, you’re walking down the street engaged in a video chat with your friend, who is 6000 miles away, taking pictures and planning your day when you realize you don’t know where you are, as you look up and to the right a computer screen appears in your line of vision, and you ask it to find the nearest subway station, and it does. The coolest part of this story is that this technology is out on our streets, right now.
Welcome Google’s foray into augmented reality glasses, housed in a pair of sleek and uber-cool glasses is a clear display that sits above just one of your eyes, these glasses can stream news and information, access maps and send or receive messages via voice command. The glasses can also take video or pictures, Android based, with a 3 or 4 G connection the Google glasses will also have motion sensors and GPS.
Initial reports tell me that the glasses will contain many voice activated features but they will also require some head tilting and nodding in order to scroll or click, and while reports say that the Google Glasses navigation will be easy to learn, I think it will make for some interesting people watching… Some reports are also pointing to an augmented reality contact lens already being under development.
Okay, so I love where this is heading, Apple is also working on a “wearable computer” project, but theirs is one that would be worn strapped to your wrist – I’m thinking I like the idea of the glasses better… Somehow it just seems more high tech, what do you guys think?
No word on price yet, but a best guess says it will probably be in line with a quality Smartphone, and you might be able to have a pair in your hot little hands by the end of the year!

  1. Imagine this if you will, you’re walking down the street engaged in a video chat with your friend, who is 6000 miles away, taking pictures and planning your day when you realize you just stepped into the busy street and are inevitably about to be run over by a truck.
This crap can be deadly when used in public.
