Pantech Vega No. 6 launches with 5.9-inch 1080p display

Not to be confused with Lou Bega’s Mambo No. 5Pantech has just announced its all-new Vega No. 6. As you’ve probably already guessed from the name, it’s yet another entry in the growing list of pocket-busting phones. The newest Vega features a 5.9-inch 1080p display, landing it right next to the Huawei Ascend Mate in the battle for enormousness.
And while Pantech isn’t necessarily known for churning out high-end devices, the Vega No. 6 certainly looks good on paper — and the company feels it’s one of the best phones on the market. It’s powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 2GB of RAM, and supports lightning-fast LTE networks. Pantech has also tossed in a 13-megapixel rear facing camera and a substantial 3140mAh battery. The additional power will certainly come in handy, and it should let the Vega keep pace with the Galaxy Note 2 (which packs 3100mAh) in terms of run time.
The Vega No. 6 will sell for a converted price of about $780 when it hits store shelves in Korea. That’s quite a bit cheaper than competing hero devices like the Galaxy S3 and LG Optimus G. Those Korean flagships both sell for closer to $1,000.
Pantech hasn’t yet said whether the Vega No. 6 will ship to other markets, but here’s hoping it does. It’s a much more powerful device than the budget-priced Kogan Agora, and if it still sells for less than the S3 and Optimus G stateside that could mean a street price of less than $500. For an unlocked quad-core device with a screen this large, that’s quite a bargain. Although you could spend even less and pick up a Nexus 7 $279.99 at Amazon with HSPA and use that as a phone. It’s not much bigger, really.
