The impending release of the Samsung Galaxy S4 left many owners of the current generation Galaxy smartphone wondering if the upgrade was worth it. Now not only do they have a difficult choice to make, but a recent price drop on the S3 makes it difficult for buyers to decide as well.
Despite being a fairly impressive piece of hardware, coupled with a wealth of new features, there’s more than a couple of people in the world today asking whether or not it is worth spending the extra for a Galaxy S4 when they already own a Galaxy S3. After all, it’s not as though the S3 feels at all sluggish or lacking, and it’s already been made clear that the S3 is going to be getting a software update when the next version of Android is available.
If you’re alright with a little bit of wait, are you really missing out on enough to justify the extra expense for the $250 GS4? This problem doesn’t apply exclusively to current Samsung owners either, and now that the price of the Galaxy S3 has dropped to make room for the S4 the choice is about to get harder.
If you’re not a part of T-Mobile’s new UNcarrier movement, there’s about to be $100 added to the list of reasons you should stop and consider whether or not you really need a Galaxy S4. Much in the same way Apple users have to decide whether they need the next version of the iPhone every year, Samsung owners now find themselves needing to choose. If you know the right questions to ask, however, it’s still more than a bargain to pre-order a Galaxy S4 on a new contract as opposed to a Galaxy S3. The increased performance and battery life coupled with the impressive new 1080p screen in your hand will be enough to help you make that decision, all you’ve got to do is hold the two phones side by side and try to do a few basic things and you’ll see the difference.
That’s the point, at the end of the day; if you’re tied into an existing contract because of the Galaxy S3, it’s not worth paying the $600+ for aGalaxy S4 just to stay in your contract. If you’re due for a new contract, or very nearly due, it is probably worth paying for the new Galaxy S4 over the Galaxy S3
